Found a Ranma 1/2 picture on tumblr yesterday that I thought would make a perfect holiday default icon, so viola! Christmas icon'd! My excitement for the holidays has been super high recently. So looking forward to my vacation. Can't wait to get back to my parents' house, sit in front of the Christmas tree with a cat (or four) and cup of cocoa and just, I dunno, take everything in. I've been listening to so much Christmas music recently, and singing it at my kids at random. I JUST WANT TO HURRY UP AND GET ON THAT PLANE AND BE HOME ALREADY.

The Bravely Second demo is pretty fun so far! Rather than the beginning portion of the game, it's kind of like an alternate world/scenario? They let you have roam of one of the continents doing original quests and stuff, and certain things will be transferrable to the main game when it's released. It's pretty cool, and for a demo, seems like its going to keep me busy for surprising amount of time. The developers did a live stream last night, and I watched the video this morning. They were mostly just addressing fans' questions, but it was still pretty cool. GETTING HYPED!

In other things, the weekend is almost here! This is the last full weekend I have in Japan before I head back to the States, and I want to enjoy it as much as possible. Saturday after work I have to go to a school Christmas Party. Not sure how much I am actually looking forward to it, as I think they are trying to do a bit too much. We are renting out a restaurant with unlimited drinks, and that is pretty normal. We are also doing 500yen gift secret santa, which is also pretty standard. But we are also doing games. And we are also trying to do a thing where EVERYONE has to bring something for a charity auction (and we all have to present our item in front of everybody. Japanese people have to use English, foreign teachers Japanese). But is a one 1 to 1 ratio (auction items to people) a good idea? Will there be enough competition? All I can picture is a few items having proper bidding wars, with a few others where only one person bids, then the rest being completely ignored. Maybe I'd be okay with the auction if we could drop the secret santa gifts (having to bring two things is a pain, and that is on top of the 3000yen party fee. THIS IS A BIT MUCH), but I dunno. Why can't we just sit back and enjoy food and drinks and conversation and let it be that? Simple is best!

Well, however Saturday goes, I think Sunday will be alright. Katsushi and I are going to head to Umeda to do any last minute shopping and probably see a movie. Should be nice!

So, it's been almost a month since you've heard from me around these parts, LJ. I'm still around, it's just that I have...kinda stopped cross posting. When I retired my original LJ account and started this one, it was made with the idea of being transitionary, and it's purpose seems to have been fulfilled. After almost 11 years on this site it feels weird to be doing this, but it finally feels like the time has come.

I'll still be lurking around here a bit, I expect, so it's possible you'll see a comment from me here or there, but I'll be updating exclusively on dreamwidth from now on. If you would like to keep up with me, you can find me here.

Thanks for everything, LJ. It's been real.

Tuesday was a public holiday this week, so with my schedule I had a three day weekend! Sweet! The icky part of this is that Friday at work I started to feel off, and Saturday this feeling continued, so my weekend was spend largely in recovery mode. I love the change in seasons, but my body has kind of been in freak out mode. :/ Also, for reasons that require a locked entry to be explained, I was alone most of the weekend.

I spent most of my time at home, but I did manage to get out a bit. Monday I took a little trip to Dork Town, Tuesday to Umeda. Being on my own that weekend, it was good to just get out and be among people a bit, you know? I wasn't 100% though, so I limited the time of my trips, I guess.

The coolest bit of my weekend was when I started playing Okami HD. Thanks for the PSN sale, Capcom! It's a game I'd been meaning to try for years, and finally I bit the bullet and UGGGGH, it's such a beautiful game! Running around and exploring is the BEST. Feels so satisfying. Other than that annoying part where I had to stop myself from going down a waterfall by drawing vines (the vine drawing thing works fine for me in the regular game, but in that part they just DID NOT seem to want to connect/be recognized properly. I GOT SO FRUSTRATED), I've been enjoying myself thoroughly. :D

Also picked myself up a birthday present. Yay! My birthday isn't for another month, though, so I'm going to try the whole "Don't touch it until the day of" kind of thing. Maybe I should wrap it to avoid temptation? But wrapping a present for yourself seems kind of silly. I dunno!

This week I've been experimenting with making breakfast smoothies, hoping I can give my breakfast more of an energy kick. My base has been banana, soy milk, and oatmeal (I still have SO MUCH), and I've been mixing in stuff like cinnamon, protein powder (which is cocoa flavored), and blueberry/acai juice. It's been pretty fun. And tasty, too!

Other health talk. Cut for your considerationCollapse )

In other news, my new programming class started this week! Because it is another beginner's class, this first week is super basic review for me, but I'm hoping to get into the fun, interactive stuff as soon as possible.

  • SMASH BROTHERS IS HERE! I've spent a little time with it so far and am enjoying myself. Seems like there is a lot to do, so it should keep me busy. I am so shitty at fighting games, so it's going to take me a while to get the hang of things. I did manage to unlock my first "secret" character, though! The second one that appeared kicked my ass though. Haha....

  • And oh yes! The Japanese Club Nintendo is offering the A Link Between Worlds soundtrack for half points (250 instead of 500), and registering Smash brothers put me just above that, so I went ahead and applied for it. :D Won't be shipping till sometime next month, but heck yes free Zelda soundtrack!

  • Yesterday I went out for Mexican with a group of Japanese ladies in their 40s from work. It was really fun! They are all super entertaining on their own, and when gathered together they are a force to be reckoned with. I laughed so hard my side hurt numerous times. XD

  • Been listening to so much AIR this week. One of my favorites at the moment is Are You Sleeping Brother John? (celt. version). All I could find was a supposed guitar cover video for it, but it sounds the same to me so here you go.

  • Katsushi went to another prefecture to visit an old friend this weekend, so Sunday night was spent by myself. Nights by myself I seem to always end up staying up later than usual watching videos on youtube, and last night was no different. The highlight for me was the new 2pm video, which I...loved a bit too much, perhaps. I AM KIND OF ADDICTED.

    They are just too cute.

Ugggh the weather has been so nice this past week! It's still only mid September (Japan is usually still pretty damn hot this month), so I guess it could still make a turn for the worse, but I doubt it will. This was probably the coolest summer I've experienced in Japan, and I don't think it has the strength to return. The weather has changed from just feeling like a cool summer day to feeling like early-autumn, which I kind of consider the point of no return. The afternoons can still be warm, but the humidity is down and the nights and mornings are really cool. Feel like I'm going to need to pull my blankets out of the closet pretty soon. Heck yes, autumn!

So much Smash Brothers hype this week. I downloaded the demo and gave it a whirl. It was really pretty for a 3DS game. Fun too, but it reminded me that I haven't played a Smash game for probably 10 years and really need to learn how the eff to play it. Haha. This week's Famitsu magazine came with a 100 page guide/intro to the game, so I picked that up. And final hype: my copy is out for delivery! SHOULD BE HERE SOON! I'm going out for lunch with from people today, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed it will come before I have to leave!

Been playing lots of Bravely Default: For the Sequel this week, and am finding myself falling right back into the addictive job system. Some of the improvements made over the original version are nice, though the game is seeming easier to me this go around. Maybe because of new features (battle frequency control), maybe because I just know what I'm doing from the start, maybe because being able to play it in English means I have an easier time understanding and using abilities. I dunno.

  • Went ahead and preordered the 3DS version of Smash Brothers this morning. Can't wait! We are so close in Japan. SO CLOSE.

  • Been reading as many articles and opinions as I can about the new 3DS, the latest being a Japanese article giving some first hand impressions. They seem pretty happy with it, and that makes me excited. So much indecisiveness over what model I like better though. With the old (is that what we should call it now?) models, the LL/XL was clearly superior, but with the new models I don't know? They both look pretty good to me.

  • There were some pre-Tokyo Game Show announcements the other day, some of which were pretty fun. Most excited for the Ys game. Looks perfect for the Vita. Liked that there was a Persona 5 teaser as well. The new protagonist's design is pretty cute, but I'd like to see some gameplay footage soon.

  • Finished with my previous book, Fun, Inc., and now I'm on to The Power of Habit. I still have about 2/3 of the way to go, but it's already making me think how I can work some better habits into my daily routines. I'll be reading this book VERY carefully.

  • On a final note, a few months ago I mentioned that there was a new Tenchi series coming this fall. They've been releasing character designs lately and they are...really disappointing. You can see the main girls' designs here, and Tenchi + some new characters here. Ugh. :/ I want to like this series, but I don't know if that will be possible.

So, less serious stuff here.

  1. There is a lot of complaining going on over the new 3DS announcement. But...that's no surprise, I guess. new 3DS ramblingCollapse )

  2. In book land, I finished reading the book on depression and am now reading Fun, Inc. Yay?

  3. Jay Park released a new video today and I think it's kinda cute? Physically, I always love Jay Park (SO PRETTY UGGGGH), but I tend to dislike the majority of the music he puts out, so it's always a nice surprise when I find one of his songs listenable. Love the Michael Jackson jacket and dance moves. :D

  4. New Shulk default icon! Def still excited from the last Nintendo Direct's Xenoblade-y announcements.

Bits
So, the week is going. Getting a bit more settled into my new computer. Yay for that, I guess? It's kinda cool today, which feels weird, but I am definitely happy about that. Only 24C (75F)...so comfortable! Thanks, rain!

Other notes :
  • I started playing FFX again this week. Not sure why...it's just what I wanted to do? I'm playing it in English this time, though, on the PS3. The dub is not as bad as I was expecting it to be (lots of people hate it, right?). Yuna's English voice doesn't capture her character as well as the Japanese voice, I think, but other than that I think the dub is...alright?

  • Still reading that book on depression. It's a bit long and can wear me out, so I've still got about half of it to go.

  • Storybundle has another video game bundle up! More interesting nonfiction books and magazines on games, yay! The bonus includes two music albums that are pretty quality. I'm listening to the first one right now and love it.

Feel like I probably had more to say, but can't really remember what I wanted to talk about. In which case I'll just leave it here for now. Hope you are all having a good day.
